With Taylor Polidore Williams stepping into a new leading role in Netflix’s Beauty in Black, we wanted to create something that celebrated more than the career milestone. The concept became an exploration of Black beauty across time, paying homage to iconic hairstyles and the eras surrounding them while placing Taylor at the center of that history as a Black woman entering her own leading-lady era.

THE STORY

Each look was curated around a different historical era and an iconic Black hairstyle associated with it. We styled them together to create complete characters that reflected the attitude, silhouettes, and visual language of each period. The references honored the Black women who helped define beauty across generations.

CREATIVE APPROACH

The finished editorial became both a celebration of Taylor’s new role and a visual love letter to Black beauty. By moving her through different eras, the series connected the legacy of Black women who have continually shaped culture and beauty with a new moment of representation: Taylor stepping forward as the leading woman of Beauty in Black.
